Fellowship is awarded in Mathematics Education. The position is associated with the Project “Strategiske stipendiatstillinger om nye læringsformer” (Learning using Digital Media) at University of Agder.
Course Level: Fellowship is available for pursuing full-time PhD research program at the Faculty of Engineering and Science at campus Kristiansand.
Eligibility:
- The candidate will be enrolled in the PhD programme of Mathematics Education and must qualify for admission to the programme within three months of appointment.
- Applications from applicants who already have a PhD will normally not be considered.
- The candidate must hold a cand. scient. or master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education or similar. Practical pedagogical competence is required.
- Documented interest in the use of digital technologies for teaching, learning and assessment in higher education, is required.
- Proficiency in Norwegian, or another Scandinavian language, is required.
Applicants from some countries must document their English proficiency through one of the following tests with the stated results or better:
- TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language with a minimum score of 550 on the Paper-based Test (PBT), or 80 on the Internet based Test (iBT);
- IELTS – International English Language Testing System, with a result of at least 6.0.
The University of Agder invites applications for a full-time fixed-term appointment as PhD Research Fellow in Mathematics Education (ME) for a period of three years, alternatively four years with 25% of the time assigned to tasks at the faculty’s discretion. The starting date is negotiable. The position is associated with the Project “Strategiske stipendiatstillinger om nye læringsformer” (Learning using Digital Media) at University of Agder. This is an interdisciplinary project, involving PULS (UiA’s Pedagogical Development Centre), the Faculty of Social Science, the Faculty of Humanities and Education, and the Faculty of Engineering and Science. The research fellow will be part of a research team of PULS staff members, PhD fellows and supervisors from these faculties. The position is located at the Faculty of Engineering and Science at campus Kristiansand. The position is within the department of Mathematical Sciences and there will be interdisciplinary collaboration with the department of ICT. Also, the fellowship will contribute to the mission of the newly established Centre for Research, Innovation and Coordination of Mathematics Teaching (MatRIC).
Duration:The position is for a period of three years, or four years with 25% of the workload allocated to other tasks at the Faculty’s discretion.
What does it cover?The position is remunerated according to the State salary scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017, salary grade 50 (NOK 421.100). A 2 % compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
Selection criteria: Personal suitability and good teamwork skills will be emphasized in the evaluation as well as relevant practical experience. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of academic background and results, attainment, and any previous research and development work.
