Scientific Introduction Fellowship on "Large-Scale Data Management in Cloud Environments" (ref. EXCL/EEI-ESS/0257/2012 – BIC3) | INESC-ID Lisboa

Nowadays, the number of sensors, devices, and systems generating stream data is huge and it continues to grow. A breath of applications is emerging that relies heavily on Querying Streaming data to take action based on large amounts of generated by such systems. Expressing queries over data streams is often complex, especially for queries requiring temporal modalities of 'always in the past' or 'somewhere in the past'. Our aim is to survey existing literature and technologies for data stream processing, with a particular focus on temporal queries, and to propose an adequate extension to existing streaming query languages to support (o subset of) temporal queries will be proposed. Finally, a prototype should be implemented, extending an existing streaming query processor, to illustrate the feasibilty of our approach.
