1 PhD Position in Computer Science - Image and Video Coding Group in Germany | Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI)

The Image & Video Coding Group at Fraunhofer HHI is offering a PhD position within the Marie Curie Initial Training Network for PeRceptional Optimised VIdeo CompresSION (PROVISION).

The aim of the PROVISION Initial Training Network is to provide the highest level of training in video compression and transferable skills for our researcher team, with the ultimate goal of delivering transformational research, innovative technology and new international standards.

In the open position, development of methods for perceptual-oriented video coding will be pursued. The specific tasks will be:

• Definition and specification of appropriate quality assessment methods
• Design of a rate-quality optimization framework
• Integration and testing of the developed rate-quality tools within the H.265/High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) reference software

PROVISION will provide a broad scientific education for its team members and will produce a new generation of researchers equipped with the interdisciplinary and transferrable skills needed by industry and academia. The partners of the Marie Curie ITN PROVISION are: the University of Bristol, the British Broadcasting Corporation in London, the RTWH Aachen, the University of Nantes, and Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin.
