Περιγραφή

Simula Research Laboratory AS is a publicly owned research institute located outside Oslo, Norway. We are a multi-cultural organization, employing about 130 individuals from 25 countries. Simula conducts ICT research in the fields of communication technology, scientific computing and software engineering, with the main objective of generating new understanding and creating vital knowledge about fundamental scientific challenges that are of genuine value to society. This is achieved through high quality research, education of graduate students, industry collaboration, technology transfer and commercialization. Simula actively supports, and creates the conditions necessary for the establishment of businesses based on the research it conducts.

We are currently seeking a candidate for a full-time Post-doctoral Research Fellow position in Evidence-Based Software Evolution. The position will be in the Software Engineering department at Simula Research Laboratory, located in Oslo, Norway. This position is funded by the Norwegian Research Council via the FRINATEK project EvolveIT and it will last for two years, starting as soon as possible.

Simula’s Software Engineering department conducts world leading research on software verification and validation, software evolution and empirical software engineering. The department was ranked first in the last ranking of top institutions in systems and software engineering published in the Journal of Systems and Software, and it was recently ranked “Excellent” by the Norwegian Research Council, which is the highest possible evaluation score. The Software Engineering department hosts the Certus Centre for Software Verification and Validation, which is supported by the Research Council of Norway as a Centre for Research-based Innovation. The official working language in the department, and at Simula, is English.

Responsibilities

The Post-doctoral Research Fellow will be part of a project team exploring new ways of guiding the evolution of large industrial software systems based on evidence-based recommendations which are mined from the system’s source artifacts and development history. The research is done in close collaboration with industrial partners, and requires a hands-on approach to build real-world prototypes. The team is looking for a talented postdoctoral research fellow in the field of software evolution, ideally with a background in software repository mining and/or software analytics.

As a Post-doctoral Research Fellow, the candidate is expected to collaborate with PhD students, and to supervise and collaborate with master students. We provide the opportunity, as well as support, to apply for research funding or commercialization funding, which could help establish follow-up projects and employment extensions. There are no requirements for teaching classes.

Your Profile

We are looking for outstanding candidates that recognize themselves in the following profile:

  • completed a PhD in a topic relevant to the research area of the project,
  • a background in software evolution, software repository mining, software analytics or machine learning,
  • a strong record of publications in international conferences and journals,
  • good programming skills, shown through examples of earlier work,
  • a strong practical focus, both in terms of design and development of solutions,
  • the ability to both collaborate closely with others, and to work independently on challenging problems,
  • excellent English speaking and writing skills,
  • the desire to explain research topics, both to a scientific audience and to industrial partners.

The interaction with industrial partners requires excellent communication skills and openness to adopt new ideas and directions. Earlier industrial experience (via employment or research collaborations) will be considered an advantage. Simula maintains an open, international and diverse work environment, and seeks applications from outstanding scientists regardless of their national origin or citizenship.
