Περιγραφή

The research team ELEC at the VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) has a long track record on the identification (non)linear systems, electronic measurement and design techniques. The wide range of applications studied in the team originates from a solid theoretical background, combined with a large network of interdisciplinary contacts, and a loyal research environment based on trust and cooperation.

A new strategic research program is started that aims to enhancement Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) with a unified modeling, analysis and design paradigm. It focusses on nonlinear dynamic systems and their application in electronic applications. This covers various types of analog electronic systems, including discreet and continuous-time active filters, RF and mm-wave transceivers, RF power amplifiers, (sigma-delta) ADCs, synchronization of oscillators, PLLs, …

The following goals are defined within this context:

  • Match the existing techniques to the design needs via block-oriented and scalable models (scalable w.r.t. the design parameters) for linear, nonlinear and autonomous electronic systems.
  • Analysis techniques to pinpoint the imperfections within the nonlinear electronic systems. This work will be based on the Best-Linear-Approximation (BLA), a methodology that extends linear system theory to get insight in the nonlinear behavior of the system.
  • Co-design of hardware, software and analysis techniques to enable runtime diagnostics and to compensate non-idealities as e.g. done in digital pre-distortion techniques.

Responsibilities of the research job

It is the responsibility of the post-doc / PhD researcher to become one of the enthusiastic key players in expanding the research project. In order to do so, you are asked to:

  • Perform high-quality research and present/publish the results at reputable conference and in high-quality journals.
  • Disseminate the research results at tutorials and courses.
  • Cooperate and guide PhD researchers within the team.
  • Develop and accomplish a visionary long-term strategy.
  • Look for new research opportunities/cooperation in an international context.
  • Apply for research grants/projects (local and/or European) to expand the research domain.

Requirements of the research job

The post-doc / PhD-researchers must perform research in the intersection between system modeling, signal processing and electronic system design. The profiles that we are looking for are:

  • Post-docs with experience in electronic design and with an interest in applying their electronic design experience to develop new techniques.
  • Post-docs with experience in system identification and with an interest in electronic design.
  • PhD researchers with strong interest in the different research topics.

Job offer

The research job is a full-time offer and covers a 3 years period, extendable up to 5 years. During this period, it is the goal to work towards a more enduring position by prolonging the research program and/or receiving grants for novel research projects. Therefore, you will have the unique opportunity to perform research, and to develop your managerial skills in guiding researchers and applying for projects.
