Περιγραφή
The Process and Energy Department has an opening for three PhD students.
Project 1: Investigation of turbulence and turbulent flow structures. In this project, the flow structures in transitional and fully-developed turbulence are investigated in relation to the scaling behaviour and transition in turbulent flows for Taylor-Couette flow and pipe flow.
Project 2: Air leakage control of air cavity vessels through hydrophobic coatings. The objective is to optimise the drag-reducing potential of air-lubricated ships through a hydrophobic (water-repellent) hull coating, which is expected to reduce the leakage of air to the surroundings.
Project 3: Turbulence and turbulent flow structures. The objective is to optimise the performance of swimming and rowing by investigating the fluid motion around moving objects, such as a moving rowing blade or a moving hand.
Requirements
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
- An MSc degree in mechanical engineering, applied physics or aeronautics;
- Experience with modern experimental and numerical methods in fluid mechanics;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken;
- Flexibility, creativity, social competence, and good communication skills.
- A background in fluid mechanics will be a distinct advantage.
Application Deadline: March 30, 2014.
