Περιγραφή
Politics, Economy and the Organisation of Society (PESO) is a research area at Södertörn University encompassing the disciplines of Political Science, Sociology and Business Administration. All three disciplines have broad theoretical aims and conduct research in many parts of the world. However, they all have strong research records within Baltic and East European studies. Social organisation, legitimacy and regulation, in a broad sense, are its’ focus. Researchers and doctoral students have studied various types of organisation (states, bureaucracies, international organisations, companies, voluntary organisations), these organisations’ relationships with each other and their effects on people’s lives. Three distinct but interconnected societal levels – the institutional, the organisational and the interpersonal – have been analysed.
The discipline of sociology is distinguished by its lively research and teaching environment. Among our research fields are urban studies and ethnicity, health and social change, political sociology and organisation, working life and gender, and welfare and the labour market. The discipline has a global analytical orientation. Many of our projects focus on East and Central Europe, Sweden, the other Nordic countries, and the EU.The research must be relevant for the Baltic Sea region or Eastern Europe since the position is within the Baltic and Eastern European Graduate School, BEEGS which is part of the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies, CBEES at Södertörn University.
This notification of vacancies includes both admission to third-cycle education, i.e. research level, and employment on a doctoral studentship. The intended outcome for students admitted to third-cycle education is a PhD. The programme covers 240 credits, which is the equivalent of four years of full-time study. A doctoral student’s working hours should primarily be dedicated to his/her third-cycle studies; however, the position may entail other duties within education, research and/or administration, but these may be equivalent to no more than 20 % of full-time.
Entry requirements and selection
The general entry requirements are:
- a second-cycle/master level qualification,
- fulfilment of the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits awarded at second-cycle/master level, or

Specific entry requirements
A qualified applicant has the equivalent of 90 credits in sociology and has successfully completed second-cycle studies in sociology, or who has attained the same qualifications outside of Sweden or by previously taking some equivalent degree. Under special circumstances, the faculty board may exempt an applicant from fulfilling special qualification requirements.
Employment

The employment is for no longer than the equivalent to a maximum of four years full time studies. The provisions relating to employment on a doctoral studentship are stated in the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Sections 1-7.
