Περιγραφή
The Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric) at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) invites applications for a doctoral fellowship in international environment and development studies. The selected candidate is expected to start the doctoral studies in August 2014.
As a department at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the NMBU, Noragric is engaged in education, research, institutional collaboration and assignments within international environment and development studies. The Department has a PhD programme in International Environment and Development Studies, three Master’s degree programmes and a Bachelor’s programme. Research at Noragric is organised within four research clusters: Climate Change, Agriculture and Development; Conflict, Human Security and Development; Environmental Governance and Rights and Power in Development.
The Department hereby invites proposals for PhD projects that aim to investigate possibilities, obstacles and/or impacts of development interventions that are framed as part of a broader green economy. The concept of the 'green economy' was proposed at the Rio+20 conference in June 2012 as a means for catalysing renewed support for sustainable development in the context of global environmental change, but has also been criticized by a wide range of both scholars and practitioners. The successful candidate will propose a research project that is both empirically and theoretically sophisticated, which will contribute to a more nuanced understanding of both various proposals for creating a green economy, and their effects on actual practices of sustainable development and environmental governance.
Qualifications:
The candidates should have a research-based Master’s degree with a GPA of B or above in relevant fields. Proficiency in English as a working language is a prerequisite. Research and/or working experience in developing countries will be considered an additional qualification.
Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their academic qualifications, the quality of the draft research proposal and previous research and other relevant experience. The shortlisted applicants may be called for an interview as a part of the evaluation.
Salary
The selected candidate will be appointed as a doctoral research candidate for a period of four years, of which 25 percent (1 year) will be used for obligatory academic work for the department. The salary starts at level 50 (NOK 420.800 per annum).
Application:
The application must include the applicant’s complete CV with certified copies of relevant transcripts and a draft research proposal not exceeding 4000 words. The topic of the proposal should fall within international environment and development studies, concentrating on and addressing implications of the green economy as indicated above.
