1 PhD Position in Theoretical Physics on Collective Behavior of Microswimmers at the Institute of Physics in Germany | Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz (JGU)

Applications are invited for an open PhD position (pay scale 50% TV-L 13) at the Institute of Physics in the group of Prof. T. Speck. The project is concerned with the collective behavior of autonomous microswimmers such as bacteria and artificial colloidal Janus particles. These are subjected to thermal fluctuations but also exhibit directed motion. In dense suspensions, this directed motion leads to novel interesting phenomena far from thermal equilibrium, which we aim to understand and to predict theoretically. The project is funded within a recently established priority program of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.

Required is a Master's degree in Physics or a related subject. Good analytical skills, especially in the theoretical treatment of stochastic dynamics, are highly desired.
