Basic Function of the post:
This post-doctoral position is affiliated to the EPA STRIVE funded research project: Soil Status. This project is a scoping study to evaluate current legislation and research associated with the protection of soil quality and status of soil quality in Ireland.
The primary role of this position will be to evaluate existing research, literature and legislation to define the status of soils in Ireland and how this fits within a European-wide perspective. This will include communication with a wide range of stakeholders and policy makers both in Ireland and at European centres of excellence or policy.
The post-doc will also be involved in organising stakeholder consultation and workshops. A final outcome of this project will be the design of a potential monitoring schema for Ireland.
Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project:
- To identify current knowledge gaps in soil quality and function.
- Database management and data cataloguing
- To provide support to the project co-ordinator of this project with which involves communication with a wide range of stakeholders.
- To interpret research findings and prepare scientific and popular press publications.
- To disseminate research findings to a variety of audiences, as appropriate.
- To develop an online web tool to disseminate current findings on soil quality
- Appreciation of issues relating to soil quality in research and policy and the ability to scientifically interpret and disseminate this information to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Evaluation of existing soil monitoring networks across Europe and the design and development of potential monitoring schema for Ireland.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities:
- To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and action plan.
- To comply with all relevant Teagasc policies and procedures.
- To actively participate in the Teagasc Post Doctoral Fellowship programme and review processes, and to undertake all Post Doctoral fellowship training and associated duties as agreed in the Training & Development Plan.
- To take up additional duties as they may arise and be assigned by management

- Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years post-PhD
