Job description
The PhD candidate will use econometric and other methods to provide insight into the economic forces shaping the key problems of cybersecurity. The candidate joins a multi-disciplinary team of researchers led by Michel van Eeten who collect and analyse large datasets on security incidents and Internet measurements in a variety of markets (access, hosting, DNS, mobile, financial services, etc.). In addition to this data, the candidate will also lead our involvement in an EU FP7 project and work on the results of a pan-European survey conducted within that project. The team collaborates with many industry players, and our earlier work in this area has been covered widely in the media, including the BBC, the MIT Technology Review, and Slashdot.
Requirements
We are looking for someone with an MSc in economics, econometrics or a similar background. The PhD needs to have strong skills in statistical and empirical analysis. Knowledge of Internet-related markets and information services is helpful, but more so is a willingness to learn about them. The PhD needs to be able to co-author research papers for leading conferences. There are also opportunities to teach and supervise students.
Conditions of employment
TU Delft offers an attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week, free high-speed Internet access from home, and the option of assembling a customised compensation and benefits package (the 'IKA'). Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. As a PhD candidate you will be enrolled in the TU Delft Graduate School. TU Delft Graduate School provides an inspiring research environment; an excellent team of supervisors, academic staff and a mentor; and a Doctoral Education Programme aimed at developing your transferable, discipline-related and research skills.
