Περιγραφή
A post-doctoral position within the area of BigData Analytics is available at the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDI), Faculty of Information Technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering (IME), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The postdoctoral position is for two years.
Our society has been overwhelmed with the explosion of information, where most data are available in digital form and the total amount of data grows exponentially. It is estimated that the amount of information will be doubled every ten to five years, and public information is becoming an increasingly important part of the information infrastructure for our society. Developing knowledge about and technology for modeling, storing, managing, searching, analyzing and protecting information is information technology’s greatest challenge. Information has increasingly become important as a raw material for all development. The emergence of BigData as a research area is a direct consequence of this. The BigData research initiative was established by the Faculty for Information Technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering to precisely address the related research and technological challenges incurred by the explosion of data in the society.
The research project officially starting in January 2014 will be organised in the following areas related to BigData:
- Data and Information Management
- Statistical Data Analysis and Prediction
- Search
- Machine Learning
- Bioinformatics
The BigData group’s research will primarily focus on two cases that have strong societal impact and address two strategically important thematic research areas: industry-relevant innovation, and improved healthcare for an aging society - spanning from mining the Web for trends to mining genomics and health record data for novel insights into age-related diseases. Specifically, we will develop a computational and statistical framework dealing with all aspects of web mining towards providing good predictions of social trends, and for mining genomics and health record data for novel insights into age-related diseases. Therefore, we are particularly interested in having applicants who are competent and motivated to do research in the area of BigData Analytics.
The successful candidate will act as a liaison in a multidisciplinary team of leading scientists involved in the project. The selected post-doctoral fellow will also assist in PhD student supervision and a significant contribution in project applications for external funds is expected. The position represents an excellent opportunity for an individual to develop his/her career and contribute to the development of a newly established project.
Requirements
We primarily seek candidates who have a PhD in ICT or equivalent, with specialisation in areas related BigData Analytics.
Besides personal qualities and the ability to work in team, we will prioritise candidates based on the following criteria:
- Strong publication record.
- Experience with programming, including parallel programming with Hadoop.
- Excellent communication skills - written and oral.
- Ability to work independently
Application
The application must contain information about education, exams and previous work/research experience. Certified copies of certificates and documents must be attached. Copies of publications relevant to the research scope and any other work which the applicant wishes to be taken into account should also be attached. Joint works will be considered. If it is difficult to specify the input of the applicant in a joint work, a short summary should be attached outlining the applicant’s input. In addition, the applicant should enclose a research abstract including your targeted contribution to the newly established project.
Formal Regulation
The position is remunerated at salary code 1352, salary level 57-77 on the Norwegian State salary scale. This amounts to an annual gross salary of NOK 468 100 - 688 900, of which 2 % will be deducted for mandatory membership the Norwegian Public Pension Fund. Starting salary expected to be at level 57.
The successful applicant must agree to the conditions laid down for public employees. The national labour force must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent. It is therefore a major political objective to achieve a balance of age and gender and to recruit persons with an immigrant background. Immigrants are encouraged to apply for this post. NTNU wants to increase the proportion of women in its scientific posts. Women are encouraged to apply.
Applications, inclusive CV, grade transcripts and other enclosures should be sent electronically.
Application deadline: 2014-01-02
