Obuchi Student Scholarships | East-West Center

Obuchi Student Scholarships provide funding for graduate level study to participate in educational, cultural, residential and leadership development programs at the East-West Center while pursuing a Master's degree at the University of Hawai‘i, or for study in the Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP).

Fall 2014 Obuchi Scholarship Application for the Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP)

Each year, APLP participants join from approximately 20 different countries around the globe and from every type of academic and professional background (medicine, international relations, business, relief/aid, law enforcement, education, etc.). All APLP Fellows will have at least a 4 year Bachelor's degree, and 56% of each class will also have completed a Master's degree prior to entering the program. The average age of the APLP Fellows is 32 (though the range is 27 - 52), with an average of approximately 5 to 8 years of professional work experience. Obuchi Student Scholarships support Okinawan students for master's degree study at the University of Hawai'i in fields deemed beneficial to Okinawan development needs, and to participate in the East-West Center's programs and activities.

Professor Munehiro Machida, East-West Center Obuchi Program Advisor, and EWC alumnae Ms. Junko Itokazu are available to meet with applicants who wish to learn more about the Obuchi Program and opportunities at the East-West Center.
