Περιγραφή
Daniel E. Koshland Jr. (1920-2007)
Daniel E. Koshland Jr. (1920-2007) was an eminent biochemist at the University of California at Berkeley, who was internationally known for his work on proteins and enzymes. From 1985 to 1995 he achieved the status of scientific statesman when he served as editor of the leading US science journal, Science. He was a Member of the United States National Academy of Sciences. Prof. Koshland served for many years on the International Board of the Weizmann Institute of Science and on its Scientific and Academic Advisory Committee, and also contributed generously to the Institute.
The Fellowships
Koshland Fellowships are awarded to exceptionally qualified candidates who have received a Ph.D. or equivalent degree from a recognized institution within three years of taking up the appointment. The successful candidates will be known as Koshland Scholars.
The Selection Process
One does not apply to the Koshland Stipends. Selection of the Koshland Fellows is done by the Institute following the rounds of selection of candidates for the Deans of Faculties Fellowships. Therefore, there is no need for additional forms.
Time Limit
The Koshland Fellowship is tenable for two years, with the possibility of an extension for a third year.
Koshland Fellows are granted the following additional benefits:
- A one-time grant of US$5,000 at the end of their first year
- An increased annual travel allowance ($4,140 instead of $1,640)
