Research grant on “Replication and Data Placement in Distributed Key-Value Stores” | INESC-ID Lisboa

1 research grants BI (licenciados) is now available in PEPITA PTDC/EEI-SCR/2776/2012 funded by FCT/MEC through national funds (PIDDAC), under the following conditions:

Duration

12 months from November 1st, 2013. The grant may be renewed within the period of the project, not exceeding the maximum period set by FCT for such grants. Renewal is subject to suitable performance

Legislation

A fellowship contract will be celebrated according to “Regulations for Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology-2013”, the INESC ID Grant regulations approved by FCT, Lei nº 40/2004 de 18 de Agosto (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), and the law “Decreto-Lei n. º 202/2012 de 27 de Agosto” and amended by “Decreto-Lei nº 233/2012, de 29 de Outubro” and by the “Lei nº 12/2013, de 29 de Janeiro.”

Monthly amount

The monthly amount of the grant 745 Euros is in accordance with the values stipulated in the “Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources” of FCT and INESC-ID Lisboa grant regulations approved by FCT, and shall be rendered payable via bank transfer to an account held by the grantee.

Objectives / summary

This work aims at researching on novel strategies for solving the data-placement problem in replicated dynamic systems.

Scientific supervision

The activity will be supervised by Luís Rodrigues, Prof. Catedrágico do IST, researcher at INESC-ID. The grantee will be integrated at INESC-ID Alameda in the Grupo de Sistemas Distribuídos.

Required education Level and research experience

The candidate should have a Licenciatura in Engenharia Informática ou de Computadores or equivalent.

Evaluation criteria

Academic record of the candidate, interest for the following areas of research: distributed systems. The Juri may decide to interview the candidates in order to perform a more objective evaluation of some of the criteria. Preference will be given to candidates with the availability to do a MSC Thesis in the context of the project. English language level will also be considered as criteria.

The criteria are weighted as follows: affinity of the degree (20%), final grade (20%), grades in distributed systems courses (30%), availability to a MSc (20%), knowledge of English (10%).

The jury will convene in October 21, 2013

Results

The final evaluation results will be publicized through an ordered list, and the candidates will be notified of the Jury decision by email.
