Περιγραφή
Eindhoven University of Technology School of Industrial Engineering has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Operations Management (Maintenance Logistics) - full time. Starting date: As soon as possible, but no later than January 2014.
The School of Industrial Engineering (IE) is one of the longest-established IE Schools in Europe, with a strong presence in the international research and education community. At the heart of its academic philosophy is the synergy between research and teaching. The department offers an academic environment in which scholars and students work on critical problems at the interface of engineering, management and innovation. The Operations Planning, Accounting & Control (OPAC) group of the IE school currently consists of 4 full professors, 1 associate professor, 12 assistant professors, 6 postdoctoral fellows, and 24 PhD students. The faculty teach and conduct research in the area of Operations Management, with specific emphasis on operations planning and control in manufacturing, services, logistics and supply chains. Research is generally quantitative in nature, while many of the researchers also engage in empirical research. All research is embedded in Beta, the KNAW-recognized research school for Operations Management & Logistics. OPAC is currently recruiting for a postdoctoral fellow that will work on the “Integrated Maintenance and Service Logistics Concepts for Maritime Assets” (MaSeLMa) project for up to three years.
Description of the project
In the maritime sector, service logistics support and maintenance of systems constitute a significant fraction of the exploitation costs, due to the complexity and high capital value of the assets used in this sector and the highly variable and mostly severe operating conditions. This project focuses on developing innovative concepts to improve the predictability of maintenance and service logistics demand on the one hand, and developing smart concepts of service logistics optimization, supply chain coordination and cooperation on the other hand. In that way, the project aims at increasing the service logistics efficiency for these maritime assets. The other participants of the project include University of Twente, Netherlands Defence Academy, Gordian Logistics Experts, Royal Netherlands Navy, Damen, Thales, Imtech, Oliveira, Alewijnse, Pon Power, and Seamar. The research of the postdoctoral fellow will focus on service logistics planning, i.e. effective and efficient deployment of resources to support the dynamic maintenance plan, such as determining the optimal quantities and locations of the spare parts, service engineers, tools, and diagnostic equipment. The fellow will work with Dr. Tarkan Tan and Prof. Geert-Jan van Houtum within Maintenance, Reliability, and Quality chair.
Tasks
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to conduct research and write research papers on the research project, in close collaboration with the project partners. The position also requires getting involved with some teaching activities of the OPAC group (a maximum of 30% of the time), including the supervision of BSc and MSc students that will work on subparts of this project with one or more of the industrial partners.
Requirements
The applicant should have completed (or be close to completion of) a PhD degree in industrial engineering, operations management, operations research, econometrics, applied mathematics, or a comparable domain with a solid background in quantitative research methods. Fluency in English is required.
Conditions of employment
We offer:
1. a challenging postdoctoral appointment for a period of 3 years in a dynamic and ambitious university;
2. a gross monthly salary between € 2,890 and € 3,793 (on a full-time basis), depending on experience and knowledge;
3. a yearly holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary;
4. a yearly end-of-year allowance of 8.3% of the yearly salary;
5. a broad package of fringe benefits (including an excellent technical infrastructure, moving expenses, savings schemes, and excellent sports facilities).
Application deadline
31 October 2013
