Project description

Project: Labour market driven learning analytics

The objective of this project is to improve educational outcomes in higher education with the help of valid labour market data. In order to achieve this, data on graduates of the University of Amsterdam and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) will be matched to employee data obtained from Randstad (one of the largest employers in the Netherlands) and GITP. The candidate will explore Person-Education-Labour market (mis)matches by aggregating individual level data to the meso-level. Methods include big data analytics, including classification, cluster analysis, data fusion and integration, neural networks, pattern recognition, predictive modelling, regression, time series analysis, and visualisation. Requires knowledge management techniques for big data analysis.

Requirements

1. Master's degree (MSc, MA) in the area of Business Informatics (Knowledge Management) or Information Science (Artificial Intelligence, Data mining, Data Representation) with excellent grades and a demonstrable interest in this area;

2. demonstrable experience with, or a strong interest in designing and executing quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed-method studies;

3. good writing and public speaking skills (e.g., delivering a conference presentation, teaching);

4. analytical skills, creativity, precision, proactivity, and perseverance;

5. ability to work in a team and independently;

6. strong motivation to pursue a career in science;

7. mastery of both written and spoken English.

Preferably

1. High thesis grade;

2. research Master degree;

3. second Master's degree (MSc, MA) in the area of business (business studies, business administration, management, HRM) or applied psychology (work and organizational psychology) or related field(s) with excellent grades and a demonstrable interest in the area of human resources management;

4. publication(s) in peer reviewed journal(s);

5. honours distinction.

Appointment

Based on a full-time appointment the duration of the appointment as a Marie Curie ITN fellow will be for a maximum period of 3 years and will, in line with the duration of a PhD study in the Netherlands, be extended another year according to the employment rules of the University of Amsterdam. The appointment will be 12 months plus a further 36 months after a positive evaluation and should lead to a dissertation (PhD thesis). A Personal Career Development Plan will be drafted that includes the attendance of EDUWORKS courses and (international) meetings. The PhD student is expected to assist in teaching of undergraduates.

The gross monthly salary will be according to the Dutch universities salary scale. The collective employment agreement (CAO) of Dutch universities is applicable. Besides the salary, the PhD student will obtain a mobility allowance for the duration of the 3 years of the Marie Curie ITN project. For the one-year extension of the appointment after the Marie Curie project, the gross monthly salary will be according to the salary scales of the University of Amsterdam (without the mobility allowance). Positions are aimed at being full-time, but by exception, if needed for family reasons, part-time appointments are possible.
