Περιγραφή

A temporary position as PhD candidate in Geography is available at the Department of Geography, NTNU. The appointment is for a period of four years. The position will provide a promising research student the opportunity for professional development while studying for a PhD degree. The position is connected to the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology Management’s PhD programme and the Faculty would be the employer.

The Department of Geography currently has 7 Professors and 13 Associate Professors. The Department has four main focus areas: 1) Climate, vulnerability, adaption and mitigation; 2) Environment, resources and management; 3) Mobility, transnationalism and inequality; and 4) Innovation in industry and society. The PhD position relates to focus areas 1 and 2.

The PhD position will be part of the project Climate change and natural hazards - From mapping vulnerability to assessing resilience that seeks to understand how resilience is perceived and acted upon in local communities. The project combines qualitative place-based field work relating to local perceptions of resilience with a quantitative and GIS based investigation of community resilience on larger scales. The project’s overall aim is to develop a robust knowledge base for understanding resilience in relation to climate change and natural hazards in Norway. Qualifications

The prerequisite for the position as PhD candidate in Geography is either a master’s degree in geography with a good result or corresponding education to an equivalent level.

Payment and working conditions

The position as PhD candidate is paid according to salary level 50, in the National Salary Scheme, gross NOK 35 066,70 per month, of which 2 % is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.

The terms of employment will be in accordance with existing national regulations of 31 January 2006, with NTNU’s supplementary regulations of 17 June 2009. The applicant must commit to undertake organized PhD studies within the employment period. Employment as a PhD candidate requires admission to a PhD programme in Geography. The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants. The employee is expected to accept possible changes in work tasks. Primary residency in Trondheim is a prerequisite.
