Περιγραφή
The number of dementia patients will steeply increase in the next decades. Individual dementia biomarkers are strongly needed for early (differential) diagnosis in the stages preceding significant cognitive loss. The discovery of an early biomarker is considered the holy grail in dementia research.
With magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), both brain structure, anatomical connections and functional brain networks can be studied. Functional and anatomical brain networks are likely one of the first features of the brain to decline in early dementia. With cutting edge analysis techniques on MRI scans we will study classification accuracy of individual patients. Next, we will study sensitivity of this biomarker for early diagnosis and prediction of future decline rate using longitudinal studies.
Key responsibilties
- Apply machine learning techniques on MRI scans of brain structure, anatomical connections and functional brain networks;
- Set up longitudinal studies in patients and controls and analyse their MRI scans;
- Actively collaborate with other centers;
- Write scientific papers, present at international meetings.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in biomedical engineering, psychology, medicine, biomedical sciences, physics, or a related discipline;
- Experience or affinity with (F)MRI data analysis techniques;
- Affinity or experience with machine learning techniques;
- Affinity with studying dementia and brain networks;
- Independent and team player;
- Excellent writing skills.
Conditions of employment
We offer a stimulating, multidisciplinary research environment and integration in a large team of experts in various centers.
Appointment will be according to the terms of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten), for a period of one year with an extension of three years after positive evaluation of capabilities and compatibility.
