Περιγραφή
The project will focus on the design, manufacturing and testing of microfluidic systems and labs on a chip for biomedical applications. One specific aim is to develop novel concepts for low cost, but highly sensitive, point-of-care biosensors for diagnosing infectious diseases and guiding their therapy. Another aim is to develop novel concepts for micromachined active surfaces for the prevention of biofouling.
The students will be enrolled in the KTH PhD program in Electrical Engineering, which provides world-class quality education, including a large list of graduate courses ensuring an in-depth development of relevant competences and skills.
KTH offers an attractive working environment, generous remuneration, as well as other employment benefits. As a PhD student at KTH you have many opportunities to participate at conferences, projects and other relevant events that will extend your professional network and benefit your future career.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant is expected to hold or to be about to receive an MSc degree in engineering.
Whereas the excellence of the candidate will be the main qualification criterion, the following educational background is an asset: an engineering specialization in a broad field, such as engineering physics, and previous education in micro- or nanosystems engineering or related subjects. Background knowledge in (bio)medical engineering or (bio)chemistry may also be beneficial over other engineering specializations.
The following criteria will be the most important and should be substantiated in the application:
- an outstanding academic track record
- well developed analytical and problem solving skills
- creativity/out-of-the-box thinking in problem solving
- intuition in physics
- the ability to work independently
Furthermore, good command of English orally and in writing, which is required to publish and present results at international conferences and in international journals.
We are looking for a strongly motivated person, ready to engage in this 4-5 years long PhD educational programme.
