Περιγραφή

By looking at wind production and its correlation to wind cooling of power equipment we can deduce that in many cases we can transfer more power on a given part of a power system than what it is statically rated to. This basically translates into that more turbines can be installed at a single site and/or reduced curtailment, in all making the investment in wind power production more attractive.

As a PhD student you will develop and test methods for dynamic rating of overhead lines and transformers connected to wind power. This includes analysis of risk and reliability in several situations and also includes the effect on the lifetime of the equipment.

We see several interesting levels to be studied ranging from “Design and forget – how much can we increase the rating without the need for extra monitoring at an iso-risk level?” to a more data intense method with sensors strategically placed and an active management of the energy transfer from a control room.

You will start by investigating some commonly made assumptions on how wind actually affects components together with studies in topics that are needed for the project.

You will be enrolled in the PhD program in Electrical Engineering that provides world class quality education, including a large list of graduate courses ensuring an in-depth development of relevant competences and skills.

KTH offers an attractive working environment, generous remuneration, as well as other employment benefits. As a PhD student at KTH you have many opportunities to participate at conferences, projects and other relevant events which will extend your professional network and benefit your future career.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant is expected to hold or to be about to receive an MSc degree in applied math, physics, electrical engineering or similar area. Knowledge and skills in the following areas are valued:

  • Specialization in statistics
  • Previous work with sensors and data collection
  • Economics
  • Swedish.

Creativity and stamina are the two main success indictors for a PhD student, of course together with well developed analytical and problem solving skills. The successful applicant should have an academic track record with top grades in relevant topics. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to publish and present results at international conferences and in international journals.
