Περιγραφή

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in bioinformatics available in the Laboratory of Cell Signaling and Disease Biology (Prof. Dr. W. Krek) at the Institute of Molecular Health Sciences at ETH Zurich per summer/autumn 2015.

Postdoctoral Position in Bioinformatics

The successful candidate will work as part of an international team dedicated to understanding how disrupted cell signaling and genome alterations drive human disease, in particular cancer and heart disease, and how this knowledge can be exploited to develop precision medicines. Investigations range from the study of hypoxia- and drug-induced cell signaling, gene expression and metabolic reprogramming to the global control of alternative pre-RNA splicing and molecular signature discovery for patient stratification. The successful candidate will engage in the application and development of computational methods that integrate multidimensional data derived from public databases (such as The Cancer Genome Atlas, Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia, or GEO datasets) to generate and/or validate working hypotheses in collaboration with experimental biologists. Additionally, the candidate will provide data analysis support for RNA-sequencing, ChIP-seq, single-cell sequencing, and RNAi/chemical screening experiments. The position offers excellent scientific opportunities in a highly stimulating and interdisciplinary environment involving close interactions between medical and basic scientists.

Very good communication skills are essential, in particular towards a non-technical audience. Applicants should hold a PhD in a related field (Bioinformatics, Computational biology, Biostatistics, or Biophysics), have a strong background and experience using common bioinformatics software (e.g. TopHat, Samtools, etc.), programming languages (e.g. Python, R/bioconductor, Java, etc.), statistics, and be highly motivated to solve biological problems. The position is located at the Institute of Molecular Health Sciences at the Hönggerberg Campus of ETH Zurich, a world-leading institution in basic and applied research.
