Περιγραφή
DTU Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a PhD student for a PhD Scholarship on “Extreme wave interaction and wave loads on offshore wind turbine substructures”. The PhD scholarship is funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark, DHI and DTU, as part of the DeRisk project. This is a research collaboration between eight academic and industrial partners. The aim of the PhD project is to study extreme/breaking wave interaction with substructures experimentally. This includes investigation of for instance air-entrainment. The results will be analysed with CFD models as well.
Responsibilities and tasks
The study deals with quantification of wave physics phenomena that influences the wave loads. The focus is on the undisturbed waves, which are investigated experimentally and numerically in 2D and 3D. The effects of bottom slope, current, wave breaking, and the interaction of air-water mixture with structures and finally 3D spreading are examined.
The PhD-study includes:
- Experimental studies of wave kinematics and wave interaction with offshore wind turbine substructures in 2D and 3D
- Experimental study of air-water mixture interaction with structures
- Development and application of measuring technologies used for the above topics
- Analyses of the results using CFD
- Development and application of process descriptions for CFD analyses
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.
