Περιγραφή
The 4MAT Department at the Ecole Polytechnique de Bruxelles is looking for a PhD student, with a Master’s Degree in Materials Science Engineering with a good background in mechanics of materials.
The job
The PhD student will carry out research activities of both experimental and numerical nature. The project aims to characterize and model the adhesion of a bio-sourced polymer coating on an Aluminium substrate.
Framework
The present research work will be performed within a large collaborative project involving the different French-speaking universities of Belgium, with industrial partners such as Sonaca and TechSpace Aero. The research activities will be carried out in close collaboration with the IMAP Department at Université Catholique de Louvain, Prof. Thomas Pardoen being the co-promotor of the thesis. Prof Stéphane Godet is the main promotor of the thesis.
Topic
The research will aim at characterizing and modelling the adhesion of a bio-sourced polymer layer on an aluminium substrate through an intermediate polymer or ceramic layer. Beside the necessary characterization of the microstructures and mechanical properties of the different layers, modelling of their behaviour will be performed through micromechanics-based finite element modelling. The goal is the shed light on the important parameters that dictate the structural integrity of such multilayer.
You
Curious, you enjoy working within a team but you are also able to carry out tasks in full autonomy. You hold a Master’s Degree in Engineering most preferably with a strong background in Materials Science. Some experience with Finite Elements and Mechanics is an asset but not absolutely necessary. You should be fluent in English or French.
We offer
Multicultural laboratory, equipped with advanced techniques, in which more than 20 PhD students are carrying out their research work. Many collaborations in Belgium, Europe and outside Europe.
