Περιγραφή
KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes Architecture, Industrial Management and Urban Planning. There are a total of 13,400 first and second level students and almost 1,900 doctoral students. KTH has 4,900 employees.
The School of Engineering Sciences carries out a wide range of research at the international front line, from fundamental disciplines such as Physics and Mathematics, to Engineering Mechanics with applications such as Aeronautics and Vehicle Engineering. We also offer university degree programs in Engineering Physics, Vehicle Engineering and ‘Open entrance’, as well as a number of international masters programs.
Solid Mechanics is a classic engineering science discipline ranging from basic to applied science. The topic can be regarded as a link between materials science and applied mechanics with emphasis on the latter. It deals with the mechanical properties of materials and structures. Research at the Department of Solid Mechanics at KTH focuses on computational methods, fracture mechanics, composite mechanics, contact mechanics, material mechanics, biomechanics, paper mechanics, fatigue and reliability. A primary goal of the research is to develop methods for the reliable design of structures, material systems and processes.
Job description/Program description
The Department of Solid Mechanics at KTH offers a post-doctorate position with focus on fatigue. Based on simulated material structures and a database of fatigue data a method will be developed for reliable fatigue design of case-hardened gears. The fatigue data depends on the material structure and, as a result of manufacturing and heat treatment, the material structure varies within the highly loaded regions of the component. The design method will be demonstrated by application to surface-hardened gears.
Qualifications:
The applicant must have a PhD in Solid Mechanics or plan to obtain a doctorate in Solid Mechanics within three months from employment. Solid knowledge of fatigue is necessary. Furthermore, experience in the development of computational methods is a merit. Work will be performed with an industrial partner why Swedish citizenship and fluent Swedish are required.
