Περιγραφή
The Institute of Electronic Structure and LASER (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), in the frame of the project «SophoX» which is an “ΑΡΙΣΤΕΙΑ” Action, is seeking for one (1) Post-doctoral Researcher.
Periodic materials can control not only the propagation of light (photonics) but also modify the propagation of elastic waves (phononics) through the variation of density and elastic constants in space. Phononics constitute a rich emerging field with unexplored fundamental and applied research for the understanding of the phonon-matter and phonon-photon interactions.
In particular, hypersonic (GHz-frequencies) phononics utilize the wealth of soft matter (polymer & colloid science) for the fabrication of mesoscopic structures which represent unique platforms for realization of strong acousto-optic coupling in the visible spectrum (phoXonics).
A Post-doctoral Researcher is sought for performing niche research on the fabrication and implementation of optical fibre tapers into phononic scattering structures, for characterizing propagation/interaction effects and developing novel phononic/photonic devices. The successful candidate must have a strong background in fibre optics/photonics.
Additional expertise in optical fibre taper devices and optomechanics is considered to be a strong asset. This Post-doctoral Researcher position requires a PhD in a relevant area of physics, electrical engineering, photonics or materials science, while good communication skills in written and spoken English are required.
Requirements
- Bachelor in Physics, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Photonics
- Postgraduate Degree in a Physics, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Photonics, Materials
- Experience in Optics and Photonics with emphasis in optical fibre devices
Qualifications:
- Excellent knowledge of English language (competency in speaking and writing)
- Scientific Publications and presentations in conferences
Location: Vasilika Vouton – Heraklion Crete
Remuneration: Upon qualifications according to National and European Salary Rates
Start Date: April 1st 2014
Project Duration: 12 Months, with the option for extension
