Περιγραφή
Experienced researcher positions (Marie Curie ER) in microstructural characterization by TEM in the Department of Physics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. There are two positions available, one for 5 months and one for 12 months, both starting on February 1st, 2014.
Description
The job in the project includes microstructural characterization by TEM (TEM exprerience mandatory) of the samples provided by the network partners. This also includes report and paper writing in strong collaboration with an ESR, who also works in the same project, as well as attending the internal project meetings with relevant presentations. A practical experience on rutine TEM maintenance, as well as specimen preparation techniques, is required. The knowledge of the use of relevant software for image analysis and simulations will be highly appreciated.

STRICT TIMEFRAME: Candidate must have either:
a PhD AND less than 5 years of research experience since obtaining the MSc or equivalent diploma giving access to doctoral studies
OR
MSc or equivalent diploma AND between 4 and 5 years of research experience since obtaining the MSc or equivalent diploma giving access to doctoral studies.
This job position is offered in the scope of the European FP7 project "NetFISiC" - Marie Curie Initial Training Network - which objective is to provide Silicon carbide material (of various polytypes) with improved and adequate functional interfaces for getting a step forward in electronic device performance. Research efforts will focus on solving the current problems that important devices like MOSFET and Schottky diodes have. Besides, some fundamental research will be performed both on the growth aspect and on new and innovating devices. Applications in high temperature, high power and harsh environments are targeted.
Based on this research program, the ambitious target of NETFISiC is to train the next generation of researchers on various semiconductor related fields (such as physics, material science and engineering), taking the emerging SiC technology as an appropriate tool for study. This shall contribute to long-term strengthening of the European position on technologically important semiconductors.
Overall, 13 ESRs and 2 ERs will be recruited and trained within this network, on multi-disciplinary subjects like material growth, characterization and device fabrication, with a particular focus on SiC. This job position is offered in the scope of a Marie Curie Initial Training Network, and receives funding from the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n°264613 - NetFISiC . Marie Curie Mobility rules apply, therefore the candidate should not have spent more than 12 months in the last 3 years in the country of application. Gender equity rules apply.
The announced position is focused on advanced microstructural characterization of SiC and related materials by the use of TEM. For this reason an excellent use of conventional and high resolution TEM and a great experience on TEM specimen preparation are required. Besides the technical skills, a theoretical background in structural properties of materials is also needed. The successful candidate should be able to plan, execute and interpret TEM investigations. Computer skills and excellent English are also required.
Applications should be sent to Professor E. K. Polychroniadis (
a. Application letter describing the experience on the field and especially the deep TEM involvement.
b. Detailed CV, summarizing education, positions and other qualifying activities.
c. Scanned copies of educational certificates and transcript of records, where the eligibility should be clearly documented.
d. Certification of English language knowledge.
e. A complete list of publications, where up to 5 of the most relevant academic works for the current position are indicated.
f. A recent photograph.
The applicant should also be able to provide 2-3 letters of recommendation upon request (please indicate names and affiliations). Please note that all documents should be in English, or translated to English.
