The Center for Hellenic Studies in cooperation with the Harvard Summer Program in Greece, are pleased to offer one fellowship to a junior faculty member (Adjunct Lecturer, Lecturer or Assistant Professor) coming from the departments of the School of Humanities, University of Ioannina (Department of Philology, Department of Philosophy, Education and Psychology, Department of History and Archaeology, Department of Primary School Education or Department of Pre- School Education).
The Harvard Summer Program in Olympia and Nafplion is one of the oldest and most successful Harvard summer study abroad programs. Divided between the seaside town of Nafplion, the ancient site of Olympia and the historical city of Thessaloniki, it recently completed its thirteenth year.
Founded in 2002 by a team of Harvard-trained scholars in the humanities, and Harvard professor Gregory Nagy as the senior faculty member, the program focuses on the comparative study of cultures, with a particular interest in the legacies of Hellenism and in imperial and post-imperial formations in the eastern Mediterranean.
The fellowship includes:
- Year-long appointment as Fellow in Comparative Cultural Studies, Center for HellenicStudies, Harvard University
- A week-long stay in Olympia or Nafplio or Thessaloniki (dates to be determined). The fellow will have the chance to join the summer program and meet with the students and the faculty. He/she will attend all seminars taught during that week and address a lecture to the students on his/her area of interest.
- Year-long access to all Harvard electronic resources. The fellow will receive an ID, username and password to have access to all digital libraries, available through the Harvard University library system.
- The Center covers accommodation, breakfast and dinner, during the fellow’s stay with the program in summer, and offers a stipend aiming to offset any additional expenses (eg.transportation,etc.)
