University and City
The University of Pavia, home to 21,500 students, is one of the most ancient Universities in the country and its Medical School has been ranked first in Italy in both 2015 and 2016. PhD students at Pavia are involved in cutting-edge research in a supportive academic community and many of them live in one of the 17 Colleges of the University of Pavia that offer inexpensive accommodation and an opportunity to be involved in undergraduate teaching (supervisions). The University city of Pavia offers a wide range of cultural activities as well as first class sport facilities that make Pavia an ideal place to live and study only 35 km away from the cosmopolitan city of Milan.
The Programme
The new PhD Programme in Translational Medicine has a strong international scientific board and will offer 6 fully funded, 3-years PhD studentships commencing on 1 October 2017 plus a further studentship for a dedicated project (see below). The programme is open to science graduates who wish to undertake research in Translational Medicine and graduates in Medicine who wish to pursue a career as clinical scientists. Students of all nationalities with suitable academic qualifications (typically a BA plus an MSc degree) are eligible. Applications should be submitted using a dedicated online procedure before the 14th July 2017. The admission procedure involves a written and an oral examination that will take place on the 11th and 20th of September respectively. To facilitate applications from North America and the Far East, applicants may sit the written examination in New York and Bejing, as an alternative to Pavia. Oral examinations will be conducted either in Pavia or by videoconference. Students interested in sitting the written paper in New York or Bejing or in conducting the oral examination by videoconference should indicate so at the time of application. The written paper may be submitted in Italian or English. All oral examinations are in English.
