1 PhD position on the Research Project: Image of older people in Netherlands | Leyden Academy

One of the researches at our institute concerns the image of older people. Within this research area we explore how older people are seen, but also how older people see themselves. It concerns research into the implicit and explicit processes. This research project concerns further researching and exploring how older people are seen and see themselves on the basis of quantitative and qualitative data. Moreover, data needs to be gathered to investigate the effects of (changing) terminology on the views upon older people.

For this research we are looking for 32-40 hours a week a PhD student (F/M)

The tasks concern:

• Preparing and executing the research;
• Collecting data;
• Inserting and analysing the data;
• Writing and publishing the research results in academic journals;
• Communicating the research results to the wider public.

Requirements

The profile for this position:

• You graduated in the social sciences or health sciences in a relevant area of interest;
• You have experience with qualitative and quantitative (field)research;
• You have experience with SPSS and with qualitative data analyses;
• You can work both independently and in a team, you are enthusiastic and take initiative;
• You have affinity with older people.

Conditions of employment

We offer you a contract for four years (in case of fulltime position), conditioned upon a mutual evaluation after 1 year. You will be working in the beautiful Poortgebouw, right across from Leiden CS in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment.

• Appointment: 32-40 hours per week
• Starting date: as soon as possible
• Maximum salary (month): € 2,141.-- (1st year) - € 2,743.-- (4th year)

Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing is a knowledge centre established in 2008 that has as its mission to improve the quality of life of older people. To realise this mission, we offer educational programmes, we conduct research and we initiate developments in the area of vitality and ageing. Leyden Academy does not only aim to conduct research, but aims to implement knowledge and insights, or to critically evaluate these and to communicate this via educational products, consultation and public endeavours.
