Job content
The successful candidate will join the ‘Rhodes Centennial Project’, directed by Professor Vincent Gabrielsen and conducted in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities for the Dodecanese (Greece). The post is financed by the Carlsberg Foundation and is for a fixed period of 24 months.
The successful candidate will carry out research on the process, classification and analysis of Hellenistic and Roman finds, including pottery, from excavations in the city and necropolis of ancient Rhodes. - Develop analytical tools that will substantiate and develop the chronology of Rhodian ceramics. Assess the production and use of pottery in the regional context.
- Actively participate in workshops and conferences on material culture.
- Contribute to the annual reports of the project as well as to the final publication of the relevant archaeological material by writing or co-authoring specialized chapters in the planned volumes.
- Closely collaborate with the researchers of the ‘Rhodes Centennial Project’, and the archaeologists and other staff members of the Ephorate of Antiquities for the Dodecanese.
- Any other duties that may be relevant to the position.

Experience in the analytical study of ceramics (e.g. application of thin section petrography, chemical and micro-structural analysis) or small finds from the Aegean is strongly desirable.
The candidate should have the ability to contextualize archaeological material in its historical context.
