It is our pleasure to inform you, that the 53 Summer Seminar of Bulgarian Language and Culture for Foreign Scholars and Students is scheduled to take place between July 10 and July 30, 2016 at the National Training Centre of Bulgarian Red Cross in Lozen (near Sofia). The Seminar is organized by the Faculty of Slavic Studies at the Sofia University with financial support from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Seminar is aimed at professors, researchers, and students in the fields of Bulgarian and Slavic Studies, as well as translators and everyone interested in Bulgarian language, literature, history, and culture.

Participation in the Seminar (teaching, room and board, and cultural programme) is free of charge for the fellows of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science (based on the cultural programmes with the respective country) [1] and of the Sofia University (based on the University's direct agreements with other foreign universities and institutions).

The participation fee for those who wish to attend privately [3] is EUR 620 and for the accompanying persons who will not attend classes [4] – EUR 420. Travel expenses to Bulgaria and back are to be covered by the participants.

The mandatory daily classes include 3 hours of Bulgarian Language Practice and 2 hours of specialized seminars in Bulgarian Language, Bulgarian Literature, Cultural Anthropology or Translation. There are afternoon classes in Bulgarian Folk Songs and Dances, which will be held three times a week for 2 hours for those who would like to attend.

Within the cultural programme, there are planned trips to the Rila Monastery and the city of Plovdiv or Koprivshtica, a visit to the National Museum of History, screenings of Bulgarian films, an evening of nations and talents, etc.
