1 Postdoctoral Researcher on Educational Sciences in Netherlands | Utrecht University

As a Postdoctoral researcher you will be employed in the Department of Education at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Utrecht University. The staff of the Department of Education teaches in one or more of the following programs: the Bachelor degree programme in Educational Sciences, the Bachelor degree Programme Teacher Education for Primary Education (Academische Lerarenopleiding Primair Onderwijs), the one-year Master degree programme in Educational Sciences, the two year Research Master degree programme in Educational Sciences: Learning in Interaction (in collaboration with the Department of Special Education: Cognitive & Motor Disabilities), and the University Teacher Education Programmes for Secondary Education. All of these programmes are seeing a growing enrolment and specifically the Master’s degree programme in Educational Sciences and the teacher education programmes are in a process of curriculum renewal.

The research programme of the Department, Education and Learning: Development in Interaction, is aimed at the regulation of interaction processes in learning and studies how this affects cognitive and social-emotional development of learners in both formal teaching situations (primary, secondary, and higher education) and professional settings.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be combining research and teaching activities. Based on your expertise, you will be teaching a number of the above-mentioned programmes. Your research activities will be conducted within the research programme and you will participate in the national Interuniversity Centre for Educational Sciences (ICO).

Tasks

The position involves 20% teaching activities and 80% research time. The core tasks will include:

• teaching some of the degree courses within the curriculum of the Department;
• carrying out and supervising research within the scope of the research area of ‘Education and Learning: Development in Interaction’;
• contributing to the acquisition of research funding for the benefit of the research programme;
• contributing to the dissemination of the research results and its applications to the research community as well as the general public.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who:

• holds a PhD degree and has research experience in one of the Educational Sciences (e.g., Educational Psychology, Educational Technology, Pedagogy etc.) preferably within the domain of learning in organizations;
• boasts scientific creativity and productivity, as evidenced by being published in (international) peer-reviewed publications;
• meeting the criteria for admission to the Interuniversity Centre for Educational Sciences (ICO) is an advantage;
• is able to contribute to the acquisition of external research funding for the benefit of the research programme.
• has experience in teaching degree courses, preferably in an academic institution;
• has excellent teaching skills;
• has an eye for the modernisation of teaching methods, and can apply own research expertise to the teaching, as evidenced by positive teaching assessments;
• speaks English fluently;
• has excellent interpersonal skills and is able to work independently as well as within a team.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary, full-time (1,0 fte) position for one year, with the possibility of extension. Your salary will range from a minimum of € 3,044 (scale 10.4) to a maximum of € 4,654 (scale 11.11) per month based on a full-time appointment (i.e. salary scale 10/11 according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
