The Department of Medical Genetics within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking to fill a full-time vacancy for a doctoral student in the area of human genetics.
Job description
- You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of human genetics.
- You perform research to unravel the genetic causes and functional mechanisms underlying heritable connective tissue, cartilage and bone disorders
- You contribute to teaching and research in the Department of Medical Genetics.
- You are contributing to the communication of your research results
Profile and requirements
- You hold a master degree in medicine, biomedical sciences, biochemistry or related disciplines (last year students can also apply)
- You can submit outstanding academic results
- The focus in your teaching corresponds to the educational vision of the university
- You are very motivated and fascinated by basic research
- You are meticulous, stress-resistant and flexible
- You have good written and oral communication skills (Dutch and English)
- You are a team player who can easily collaborate with other research groups
- You are willing to spend some time abroad in another research lab if necessary
- You have good knowledge of molecular biology and genetics
- Knowledge of next generation sequencing technology, experience with animal models (preferentially with a Felasa certificate) and notions of the research theme are additional assets
We offer
- a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a further two-year period after positive evaluation;
- the start date of scholarship will be 1 September 2016;
- a gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.189,88 - € 2.334,46;
- a dynamic and stimulating work environment.
