1 Doctoral position in urban waste logistics in Belgium | University of Antwerp

The Faculty of Applied Economics is seeking to fill the following full-time vacancy in the Department of Transport and Regional Economics Doctoral student in the area of urban waste logistics

All over the globe, more and more people are living into city centers. This brings a number of problems and challenges. One of them is the logistics of getting goods in and out of city centers, in an efficient and sustainable way. One such type of goods is waste.

The project in which the researcher will work, covers urban logistics and mobility in the wider sense, making logistics costs analyses. In addition, the project aims to bring forward a detailed action plan, containing ready to use guidelines and actions for policy-makers and sector.

Specifically, the applicant is meant to conduct research on urban logistics economics for B2B waste. The aim of the research is to identify technical solutions and organizational schemes that allow handling urban waste logistics cost-efficiently, with minimum social impact, and at the same time in a sustainable way.

Job description

• You will work on a project concerning urban waste logistics, being responsible for literature analysis, field work and quantitative analysis;
• You start up a doctoral thesis with regard to urban waste logistics economics;
• You contribute to research in the Department of Transport and Regional Economics, in the field of urban logistics;
• You enroll in the university's Ph.D. program;
• You write scientific articles about the subject of your research.

Profile and requirements

• You hold a master degree in applied economics (or equivalent);
• You have relevant knowledge of transport economics and urban logistics;
• you should have a good methodological background. Proven research expertise in quantitative research methods is considered a plus;
• You can submit outstanding academic results;
• Also students in the final year of their degree can apply;
• Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy;
• You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative, customer-oriented and cooperative;
• An analytical spirit and a focus on quantification are expected;
• Team player with a sense of initiative and responsibility;
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

• A contract for a period of one year to start with, with the possibility of renewal for a further period after positive evaluation and availability of funds;
• The start date of the contract is planned for July 15th, 2015;
• A gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.167,88 to € 2.486,53;
