1 Full-time Postdoctoral Assistant at the Department of Molecular biotechnology in Belgium | Ghent University

What we are looking for

• You hold a doctoral degree or an equivalent degree. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment;
• You have already conducted research within the field of molecular analysis of plant pest or plant pathogen interactions proven by relevant scientific publications in international peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated;
• You have actively participated in national and international scientific conferences that are relevant for the analysis of plant-pathogen and plant-pest interactions;
• You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your doctorate, you are interested in the design and execution of scientific research;
• You have interest in scientific collaboration at nation and international level;
• You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programs and you have the necessary capacities to do this, at the level of didactical, communicative and organisatory requirements;
• You speak Dutch at a sufficient level to coach the students in the Bachelor programs;
• Expertise in bio-informatics for the analysis of plants and pathogens is a positive selection criterion;
• Experience with generation and analysis of transgenic plants is a positive selection criterion.

Your tasks

• At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in the field of plant nematode interactions;
• You will assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level in the field of Molecular Biotechnology;
• You will counsel Master’s students in their exercises, work placement and Master’s dissertation;
• You will counsel doctoral students;
• You will contribute to the acquirement of research budgets;
• You will contribute to the service of the service of the department and the national and international networking.

What we can offer you

We offer you a three-year appointment, which may be renewed once for three years at the most, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. The term of renewal begins immediately after the first term has expired.
