The eResearch Group in the School of ITEE is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with a background in Web Information Systems and Semantic Web to investigate the application of linked open data and semantic web technologies to multi-modal collections and data sets from the biomedical, environmental, materials, social sciences and humanities domains:
- the integration of distributed databases for scientific discovery,
- digital preservation services for digital collections,
- semantic tagging and annotation services,
- semantic mark-up of multi-modal digital collections via machine learning,
- e-science workflows and provenance capture.
The successful appointee will participate in innovative research developments, conduct original research within the general scope of Web Information systems and big data management, provide research input to other staff and students where relevant, participate and/or lead interactions with industry and research collaborators, and undertake literature review and research document preparation. As a Research Fellow, he/she will engage in PhD and 4th year undergraduate supervision, as well as performing research, administrative and other activities associated with the School and the eResearch Group.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants should possess a PhD in Information Systems/Computer Science. You should also have a deep understanding of, and a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in: Web Information systems or data management, analysis and retrieval, and an excellent understanding of the issues and challenges underpinning modern data management. You will need good programming and software prototyping skills and an understanding of industry solutions and tools. You should have good general research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent statistical and analytic skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

The e-Research Group within the School of ITEE undertakes leading-edge research into information technologies for research data capture, management, and visualisation in order to accelerate and disseminate scientific discovery. eResearch members currently collaborate with a range of specialists, including biologists, materials scientists, environmental scientists, social scientists and humanities researchers, in the development of innovative software services to enable more efficient and more collaborative data sharing and analysis.
