Περιγραφή

The Institute of Environmental Engineering (Prof. Markus Holzner), in close cooperation with the Institute for Biomedical Engineering (Prof. Sebastian Kozerke) and the University Hospital (Prof. Duru), has an opening for a PhD position in a multidisciplinary research project entitled “Novel approach for image-based estimation of stenosis severity and energy loss in aortic flow”.

PhD Position in Biomedical Flow Research

The work involves experimental research on energy loss in turbulent flows using imaging in realistic in-vitro models of human aortas including experiments using Magnetic Resonance and three-dimensional particle tracking velocimetry (3D PTV). To this end, the candidate is expected to (a) carry out laboratory experiments using laser and high-speed cameras, (b) implement image processing and data analysis and (c) to develop models and parametrizations for energy transport and efficiency in aortic flow. Moreover, simulation of energy loss in aortic flow using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is envisaged.

The requirements are (1) MSc in engineering or physics or equivalent, (2) Research interest in biomedical flows, (3) Interest in a scientific career and in interdisciplinary project collaboration, (4) Background on advanced data analysis (image processing, statistical data analysis etc.) and programming, (5) Good knowledge of English, German is an asset. Starting date: June 2015, Contract duration: 3 years.
