Περιγραφή

The Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC)was established in Singapore in 2010 as a joint initiative between ETH Zurich and Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF), as part of the NRF’s CREATE campus. The SEC is an institution that frames a number of research programmes, the first of which is the Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) , followed by the Future Resilient Systems (FRS) in 2011. The FRS addresses the challenges with critical infrastructure systems that provide essential services to modern societies, which is of particular importance to innovation-driven economies like Singapore and Switzerland. For the division of social and behavioural factors in decision-making, the FRS is announcing the following job opening:

PhD Position in Resilience Metrics for an All-Hazard Approach

Resilience is an emerging concept, characterizing the capacity of a system to recover from a disruption, to mobilize resources to initiate self-improvement, and to learn and to adapt through self-organizing processes. The project addresses the challenges how to characterize resilience on a systems level, and to integrate multiple hazards for multiple systems services into one metric. The project aims to identify a network representation for CI systems with node resilience and between-nodesinterdependencies to derive overall system resilience for different disruption scenarios, and to develop a metrics to characterize the resilience of both single socio-technical systems and a system of multiple infrastructure systems. The PhD student will work with PostDoc fellows and other PhD students in a team. The work place is at Singapore-ETH Centre, CREATE Tower in Singapore.

The successful candidate has a Master Degree in Physics, Engineering or Theoretical Biology, excellent modeling skills and high motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team.
