Περιγραφή
The Center for Quantitative genetics and Genomics (QGG) is seeking a motivated and productive postdoctoral fellow in Bioinformatics and Computational Genomics. The position is open for 2 years with a possibility for extension.
Research Area
The focus of this position is to develop computational genomics and bioinformatics programs and implement pipelines to analyze high-throughput data sets generated from next generation sequencing including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, DNAase-seq, metagenomic data etc. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with a team of scientists on multiple genomics projects, especially in cattle and pigs. The objective is to improve livestock health, production and reproduction by discovery of genetic mechanisms that underlie these traits. This entails the development and application of methods which combine bioinformatics approaches with concepts from quantitative genetics, statistical genetics and population genomics.
Qualifications and Specific Competences
Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics or Genetics. The ability to critically assimilate information from a number of disciplines (molecular genetics, biology, comparative genetics and statistics), talent for structuring and analyzing data, and interest in teamwork and interdisciplinary cooperation are desirable. The candidate will be expected to design, develop and implement computational pipelines for analyzing genotype and sequence data. The successful applicant should have programming experience, preferably in one compiled (C++, Fortran, etc.) and one interpreted language (Perl, Python, etc.). Knowledge of relational databases is also beneficial. This position requires strong analytic, organizational, written, and verbal communications skills. The candidate must be an innovator and self-starter, and work equally well in interdisciplinary teams and independently.
