Περιγραφή

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is the largest and oldest technical university in Sweden. No less than one-third of Sweden’s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes Architecture, Industrial Management and Urban Planning. There are a total of 12,400 full year students at first and second levels, almost 1,900 active (at least 50 per cent) research students and 5,100 employees.

Activities at KTH Industrial Engineering and Management cover the Engineering, Technological and Economic knowledge necessary to be able to develop new products, material and production processes in a sustainable fashion as concerns Technical management, Financial Profitability and the Environment. One precondition for innovation and enterprise is the study and application of basic physical and chemical phenomena as well as the integration of new, often multidisciplinary technologies, methods and tools. Core knowledge areas include Energy Technology, Industrial Design and Innovation, Product and Production Development, Materials Development, Micro and Nano Technology as well as Industrial Economics, Organisation and Management.

Production engineering (IIP) includes techniques which mainly concern engineer technical development of products, processes, systems and methods that have direct impact on this production. The area includes everything from engineering aspects of manufacturing to assembly of components for functional products and recycling issues associated with these disciplines.

Job description

The Department of Production Engineering seeks 2 PhD students in the research area of real-time speech and gesture recognition for human-robot collaborative assembly. The task is based on fast sensor data processing to guide robotic assembly by human operators through auditory commands and body gestures. The job includes sensing, sensor data processing, real-time monitoring, and symbiotic human-robot communications. The job also leads to dynamic assembly planning and robot control via IEC 61499 function block standard. Prior hands-on experiences in programming (C++ and Java), sensor data acquisition, speech recognition and image processing are preferred.

Qualifications:

You have an engineering degree or equivalent with specialization in industrial informatics, automation engineering or production engineering. We prefer that you have working experience in sensor data acquisition, data analysis, image processing and robotics. Experience in Java programming is a plus.

It is important that you have good interpersonal and communication skills. The position requires independent work, and you are expected to contribute to advancing the international research field. Good skills in speaking and technical writing in English are necessary to publish and present research findings at international conferences and journals. You should also be able to express yourself verbally in Swedish or be willing to learn Swedish. We will place great emphasis on personal fitness.
