BA Business Administration & Finance (Alexander College)

The Subject Business is designed to complement a number of related subjects. Typically, these include Accounting, Business Information Systems, Economics, Human Resource Management and Marketing. The intention is to provide the student with the context, concepts and techniques that are relevant to a wide variety of business problems, situations and vocational areas. Doing business is one of the most fundamental human activities. Studying Business both enhances understanding and sharpens the skills needed to participate. The business world is one of rapid (and sometimes confusing) change. It requires rigorous, methodical analysis. Students learn how to think in a business-like way and to recognise jargonised clutter that often passes for a knowledge of Business. Not all business problems have easy solutions. Why not? From whose perspective should we measure business advantage and disadvantage? Do we have to accept current business practices as desirable? Or inevitable? Those skilled in the analysis of business will be distinguished by their ability to provide convincing answers to these and other fundamental questions.
