This programme offers an opportunity for students to critically examine aspects of America’s much-celebrated and world-renowned culture via the acquisition of solid expertise in relation to the concept of ‘America' in a variety of fields: US history, literature, culture (including popular culture, film, theatre and art) as well as political history, foreign policy, constitutional law, religion and social science. Radboud University distinguishes itself from other American Studies programmes through its emphasis on the cultural and political relations between the United States, its neighbours and Europe.

The Master's programme in North American Studies offers two specialisations:

• Literatures and Cultures of North America in International Perspective
• Transnational America: Politics, Culture and Society

True to the tradition of American Studies, our programme teaches students to approach issues from different angles and to think in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary ways. We also offer excellent internships, thanks to our global network.

Admission requirements

• (The equivalent of) a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies or a related area
• A proficiency in English: TOEFL score of 600 (paper based) or 250 (computer based) or 100 (internet based), IELTS score of 7.0, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Proficiency in English (CPE), with a mark of at least B
