These Research Master's specialisations are an excellent choice for talented students who want to prepare themselves for an international academic career in historical, literary or cultural studies. Within the Master's programme in Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies, you can choose from the following specialisations:

• Historical Studies
• Literary Studies
• Art and Visual Culture

The courses are taught in English, and include not only include specialised courses, but also shared interdisciplinary courses which focusing on the methodology and theory of research theory within humanities. The interdisciplinary discussion you will find here will encourage you to expand your research ideas and adopt an independent perspective on current philosophical and methodological issues in the humanities. One specific course is dedicated to debates concerning the societal relevance of the humanities.

Admission requirements

• (The equivalent of) a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• A proficiency in English: TOEFL score of 600 (paper based) or 250 (computer based) or 100 (internet based), IELTS score of 7.0, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Proficiency in English (CPE), with a mark of at least C.
• Your average grade during the second and third years of your Bachelor’s studies was at least a 7.5 and your BA thesis received a grade of at least 8.0.A strong motivation.

A selection committee will review each application separately. Admission depends partially on a personal interview and the committee reserves the right to set additional criteria for admission if necessary.
